Adopt a first time voter

With two weeks to go it's time to up the ante and go big or go home!

In the last few elections young people have had the lowest voter turnout numbers on Election Day. As a PSA Youth member we know you’re keen to see this statistic change this election.

With that in mind, it is time to get active and adopt a first time voter

This is your chance to pass on your enthusiasm, knowledge and perhaps use your powers of persuasion to get someone who may not normally choose to vote to do so.

How it works

Step 1

Find someone (doesn’t have to be a member) who has either not registered to vote,  a first time voter, or both!

Step 2

Talk to them, find out what their concerns are about voting, talk to them about the issues and why we need to be thinking about political parties that are going to support a society young people want.

Take them to a PSAY meeting or a candidates meeting. Help them enrol to vote before Election Day. Meet them on Election Day and go to the polling booth together. Tell them about early voting. Encourage them to enroll their friends.

Do whatever it takes to get them to vote! (Just don’t tell them who to vote for, that’s not allowed)

Step 3

Take a selfie, and send it to us at standtogether@psa.org.nz (or use the form below) with a story about your first time voter.

We will make you Facebook famous (so make sure you get your new mate's permission to share the photo). You will also go in the draw to win a $50 prezzy card for you and your adopted voter*
